Ages 11 to 17 years
In this
age group, most of the permanent teeth have erupted and jaw growth is
essentially complete. Ideally, any moderate to severe jaw discrepancies
(e.g. a deficient chin) have already been corrected with interceptive
treatment. Braces
are usually prescribed to fix the remaining tooth-position problems.
If a jaw discrepancy does still exist, fear not. Braces can also "tip" teeth so that the discrepancy is "camouflaged" by the
resulting, normal bite. Sometimes tooth-tipping requires the removal of two
or four permanent teeth to adequately camouflage the jaw discrepancy. In
worst-case scenario, jaw surgery may be necessary. During your FREE

Now, a word about cooperation. Good cooperation--maintaining good
brushing
habits, not breaking braces off, and wearing auxiliaries (e.g.
rubber bands) as prescribed-- will get you the BEST SMILE in the LEAST AMOUNT OF
TIME. Period. Cooperation is essential for successful orthodontic
treatment, and the
amount of effort you put in will be reflected in the quality
of the result and the time it takes to achieve it. The patient on the
right (not our patient, by the way) neglected his braces and his teeth during
treatment, while the patient on the left cooperated very well. Which
smile would you rather have?
